The talk, Passing Judgment on the Drug War, is taking place at the Old PERA Building, Apodaca Hall (Santa Fe Trail, across from the Roundhouse - Santa Fe). Judge James Gray, a self-avowed "drug warrior" turned drug legalization advocate. will give the presentation.

Friday, October 1, 7:00pm

A.N.S.W.E.R. Albuquerque Film Showing: Salt of the Earth (1954). Salt of the Earth is based on an actual strike against the Empire Zinc Mine in New Mexico. The film deals with racism against Mexican-American workers who struck to attain wage parity with Anglo workers in other mines and to be treated with dignity by the bosses. This film was written, directed, and produced by members of the original "Hollywood Ten," who were blacklisted during the anti-communist witch hunts of the McCarthy era. This classic film is the only film to be banned by the U.S.. $5 - $10 donation requested; no one is turned away for lack of funds. Information: 505-268-2488.

Pathways to Sustainability. Whether you rent an apartment or own acres of land, this interactive workshop will be focused around your journey towards sustainability. We'll see an overview of sustainable systems and practices appropriate for the Southwest, including solar energy and heating, grey water and rainwater systems, natural building methods, high desert gardening, and land restoration. Instructor Amanda Bramble will assist you in crafting a specific and personalized vision of sustainability and developing practical and fun strategies for realizing that vision. $35 to $45 sliding scale. A public meeting concerning the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) Project is taking place at the Hilltop House (400 Trinity Drive - Los Alamos). The meeting is the result of a 2005 settlement of an appeal by community groups of an air permit issued by the New Mexico Environment Department for the CMRR Project. We will talk about the "poli-migra" problem (the intersection between the police and immigration agencies) in Albuquerque and how we will contine to fight against the criminalization of our communities. The eighth annual Southwest Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, an exciting celebration of more than 70 entries, including short films, documentaries and feature-length films from the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe and South America. The Festival has become both the largest film festival in Albuquerque and the most supported and fastest growing film happening in the state of New Mexico. This year's venues include the Guild Cinema, the Bank Of America Theatre located at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and the Southwest Film Center at the University of New Mexico. You are invited to come together to be one voice for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) community that live in fear, self hate, and silence, are silent no more. This event takes place at Morningside Park (Albuquerque). In recent months the mass media has brought awareness to the rise in GLBT suicides across our country. The sad truth and reality is that for far too long there has been a silence when dealing and coping with the issue of GLBT suicides, GLBT bullying, and GLBT discrimination. Train the Trainer Convening, "Know-your-rights and Documentation of Abuse" is a training for people that want to offer/create know-your-rights-workshops in their neighborhoods and communities, be able to identify when an law enforcement abuse is taking place, and/or would like to participate in our documentation of abuse/story collection project. The public will have the opportunity to present comments, ask questions, and discuss what should be analyzed for in the new environmental impact statement that will replace the one completed in 2003. Zapatista Resistance in Chiapas and its global voice. Activist, artist and art historian Tijen Tunali visited Zapatista communities in January 2010. Tijen will talk about the indigenous resistance and its significance for the anti globalization movements around the world. Tijen will show images to support her argument that the resistance is continuous.

People Before Profit film & lecture series presents Posada Carriles, Terrorism Made in USA. A Cuban airliner with 73 passengers on board left Venezuela on October 6, 1976. Two explosions took it down over the ocean near the Barbados coast. There were no survivors. As a result of this attack, the existence of a terrorist network was exposed to the public-- a network financed and controlled by the CIA and operating clandestinely since the 1960s. This documentary tells the story of terrorist Posada Carriles from when he started working for the CIA in the 1960s until he was welcomed in Miami by the Bush government in 2007. It reveals the tentacles of the brand of terrorism made in the USA. A representative from A.N.S.W.E.R. will speak after the film.

A lecture/discussion about Hand in Hand Israeli schools for Jewish and Arab children is being presented by Lee Gordon (one of the co-founders of Hand in Hand). This use of oil, for both human and ecological destruction, symbolizes the failure of democracy to put the needs of people and the environment first.
