Gala Launch Party for Underground, Mark Rudd's memoir covering 1965-1977. This event begins with a free posole dinner followed at 7:00pm with a showing of 7:00 showing of the Weather Underground documentary film. At 8:30pm, the booksigning and discussion begins. It all takes place at the Guild Cinema (3405 Central Avenue NE - Albuquerque). No tickets, everything's free, except for Underground, which will be sold by Bookworks (10% of sales to benefit the Guild). People Before Profit Film Series presents Righteous Babes. Acclaimed filmmaker Pratibha Parmar explores the intersections of feminism with popular music, focusing on the role of female recording artists in the 1990s and their influence on modern women. Popular music entities Crissie Hynde, Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Sinead O'Conner and others discuss the potential politics and power of performing their music. These artists are joined by Gloria Steinem, Camille Paglia and others who critique shifts in feminism and link these shifts to music's cultural impact on political activism.

The Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice presents Get on the Peace Train: Be Part of the Solution - a weekend of special events involving the Albuquerque community in developing peace solutions and the arts. The Center for Peace and Justice is thrilled to bring Derrick Jensen, the nationally known eco-activist and acclaimed author of thirteen books (The Culture of Make Believe, Endgame and others) to Albuquerque as our special guest in a weekend of creative events.
On Friday April 17th at 1pm Jensen, a philosopher poet of the environmental movement, will speak at the South Valley Academy (3426 Blake Rd SW), a charter school that focuses on sustainability, community, individual and global responsibility. Jensen will also speak to the public at 7pm at the South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SW) on the topic of being part of the solution to our global predicaments.
On Saturday, April 18th there will be free, public creative arts workshops from 12:30-4:30pm at the Media Arts Charter School -- a collaborative high school focusing on film, TV, video documentation, and editing skills -- located on the SE corner of Washington and Copper. There will be a choice of workshops in storytelling, poetry, performance, writing, and visual arts.
The South Broadway Cultural Center will host an exciting, culminating event for the community on April 18th at 7pm. Called Some of My Best Friends Are Poets, coordinated by KUNM's own Mary Oishi - the evening will feature local and national poets in performance, followed by an open-mic session, where other poets can share their talents.
