A traveling poster exhibit of photos, drawings and other graphics from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Exhibit will be on display at two Albuquerque churches. The exhibit will be on view at St. Charles Borremeo, church (1818 Coal Place SE - Albuquerque) from 9 am - 5 PM Thursday, February 26 through Thursday March 5. The Shrine of St. Bernadette will host the poster exhibition in their Parish Hall (1800 Martha NE - Albuquerque) Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., and Sunday, 8 March from 7:30 am - 12:30 p.m. A video of survivor statements also will be shown continuously. The exhibit shows the effects of the 1945 bombings of the cities and people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and urges work for peace. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Latin American Conference on Uranium Weapons, the annual conference of the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons (ICBUW). is taking place in San José, Costa Rica. The conference is being organized and hosted by the San José Friends Peace Centre (CAP) on behalf of ICBUW. CAP has invited representatives from government and non-governmental organizations throughout Latin American to attend, as well as experts from around the globe to discuss the effects of DU. This event is an important opportunity to raise awareness in the Americas and to make a unified stand against the use of these arms. People Before Profit invites you to learn about a P&J fiscally sponsored project to raise money for a school in Kenya. The presenter, McOwiti Thomas, grew up in Kapsabet in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. He holds a Master's degree in Communication from the University of New Mexico (UNM) and a Bachelor's in Physics and Math from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a Public Information Representative for the US Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network Office, which is based in the Biology Dept. at UNM. He has previously worked for the World Argroforestry Centre and as a journalist for Kenyan publications. Film to be determined soon - please give us a call.

Weaving Ourselves Whole - A Gathering of Women of Color is a FREE intergenerational gathering where Women of Color can share experiences and knowledge, gain new skills, and celebrate our lives! The film, The Iron Wall, reveals how the construction of settlements in Palestine has been a cornerstone of Israeli policy, and demonstrates how the Wall secures them as permanent and irreversible facts on the ground. Featured are interviews with prominent Israeli and Palestinian peace activists, as well as Israeli settlers and soldiers, and Palestinian farmers. The documentary film, Jerusalem: The East Side Story, exposes Israel's policy to gain supremacy and hegemony over Jerusalem and its inhabitants. Part of this policy is to drive Palestinian Muslims and Christians out of the city: denying their presence, history, and ties to the land. Jerusalem is the key to peace: without Jerusalem, there is no peace for anyone. The film includes interviews with Palestinian and Israeli leaders, human rights activists and political analysts. The documentary video, "At the Death House Door," (approx. 80 minutes) is being shown at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (5301 Ponderosa Ave NE - Albuquerque). It's a documentary on Carroll Pickett who was the pastor at the Huntsville Prison, and the last person to speak and be with the death row inmates before their execution. He saw 95 men executed. Since his retirement he has become a strong advocate for repealing the death penalty. Soup and beverages will be available before the presentation. You are also welcome to bring food.

Singing down the walls: bridging our communities through music is an invitation to join us to learn and sing our common history. Every month, local and visiting musicians will teach songs and we will continue with a community sing-along. Jerusalem Dispossessed Photographic Exhibit and a panel discussion representing Palestinian and Jewish voices takes place at University of New Mexico, Student Union Building Atrium (Albuquerque). KUNM (89.9 FM - Albuquerque) Radio Theatre presents Margaret Sanger - an audio play, by Patrick Redden, about Margaret Higgins Sanger, the American birth control activist and founder of the American Birth Control League, which eventually became Planned Parenthood. Initially met with fierce opposition to her ideas, Sanger gradually won some support, both in the public as well as in the courts, for a woman's choice to decide how and when, if ever, she will bear children.

The legislation calls for improved overdose prevention and drug treatment in jails to prevent more deaths in our community.

Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement Building (CMRR) Meeting in Los Alamos. Many unresolved seismic issues remain for the CMRR Project. President Obama canceled both the Reliable Replacement Warhead and expanded plutonium pit production in the U.S. Do we need the CMRR Nuclear Facility? Please bring your questions to the meeting. God Exists, the Mother is present but they no longer care is a dance performance being performed by Hooman Sharifi and his Impure Company (Norway). It's being presented by VSA North Fourth Art Center and NewArt New Mexico at the VSA North Fourth Art Center (4904 4th NW - Albuquerque) as part of the Global DanceFest (February 26 - March 28). The performance is a cry, elicited by the violence that separates us from a world, the world to which we would so much like to belong. Following each performance, there will be an after show discussion. "Presumed Guilty" - the story of ex-death row inmate Juan Melendez (plays the star role), will premiere in Albuquerque at the Highland High School Theater (400 Jackson SE - Albuquerque), just west of the Highland Pool. Admission is free (donations to Voices United for Justice and Witness to Innocence are welcome). The show is being sponsored by the New Mexico Coalition to Repeal the Death Penalty, just as the New Mexico State Senate is set to vote on repealing the death penalty in favor of life without the possibility of parole this week. If the bill passes the Senate, advocates hope Gov. Bill Richardson will sign the bill into law.

In honor of International Women's Month, People before Profit presents Four Women of Egypt, which looks at Egyptian and Middle-Eastern politics with an inspiring and insightful message. Political and social justice activists Amina Rachid, Shahenda Maklad, Wedad Mitry, and Safynaz Kazem are the subjects of this documentary, which dares to lay the poignant narratives of these women's lives alongside Egypt's political history. It is abundantly clear from these activist voices that political myths are always only part of the story and that political and intellectual differences are a breeding ground for growth and invaluable alliances.

The film, Trade addresses the issue of sex/human trafficking that occurs on the North American continent. A series of women lives unfold to reveal the brutality of the sex industry and graphically show how women are coerced and forced to participate as sex slaves to repay debts. Most of the movie takes place in either Mexico or Texas using women immigrants as prime targets for sex trafficking. This screening takes place at the Latin American and Iberian Institute (801 Yale NE - Albuquerque). Refreshments will be served.

A panel focused around "pro-choice" and its complexities is being presented in the UNM (Albuquerque) Student Union Building, Trailblazer Spirit room. Panel participants will talk about the necessity of a paradigm shift in the liberal "pro-choice" debate in order to make it more inclusive of women's human rights. The aim of the panel is to show that supporting women's right to make choices over her own body does not exclude cases where the women "chooses" to do gender-selective abortions.
